Here you will find some of the more common questions I have been asked in relation to coaching and my answers to these. If you do not see the answer to your question here just e-mail me the question and I will answer it and publish it here.
Q: Which coach is the right one for
me?
A: Only you will know. What is important for you? Which coach do you
feel you can trust and has he or she the qualities you want
your coach to posses? What makes you feel comfortable and yet
challenged? How is result secured? In our ethical guidelines you or
the coach has the possibility to stop the collaboration if trust or
no progress is observed.
Q: Is coaching not just a new word for
giving advice?
A: No it is not the same. By giving advice you tell the client, what
can or should be done, by coaching the coach is a kind of catalyst
making the coachee use own resources to develop and gain new
insights, about him or her self or a situation or relationship etc.,
by asking questions; - The coach can be seen as a kind of
interactive mirror.
Q: How do I know if my coach has a serious education?
A: It is difficult for the customer to know. Efforts are
made from
EMCC to describe which educations are qualified at which level
by the Quality Award. You can see if your coach's education is one
of these. And at what level your coach is educated.
Q: What certainty do I have that the coaching will bring
me development?
A: You can not be sure as this is dependant on if you want
and is willing to develop and that your coach is skilled enough to
be a catalyst for that development. You can read the coach ethical
guidelines to see if the collaboration can be stopped if the
development do not happen and also if your coach is obligated to
secure development.
Q: How long do a coaching process take?
A: It can vary very much, it can be a process concerning
only one goal or there can be several goals or a really extensive
development. The important factor is that you feel there is development
from session to session. You can view some of our experience in the
section testimonials
in the chart of customer evaluations of the coaching process.
Q: What is the price?
A: This can vary from coach to coach depending on the
process and task. You can ask for the price pr. session or for the
entire process at the coach or the coaches you feel you trust. Even
though the price for a session can seem high, a skilled coach will
often use fewer sessions or catalyze a higher level of development, thus the overall cost of the process can
very well end up being lower.
Q: What do a coach give me compared to a psychologist?
A: A Coach is for mentally healthy people. If you want to
deal with traumatic experiences or similar a coach without a
psychological background may not the competent partner. You can view
your coach's ethical guidelines concerning references to others if
his or hers competences are insufficient.
Q: What coaching styles are available?
A: As no definition of coaching is currently present it is
very difficult to answer this question. Hopefully it will be more
clear in the future also by the work of the
EMCC. You can ask your coach
how she or he works and you can try a session and see if it works
for you!
